2. Explanation of Notices
Safety notices and important information are identified with symbols at the relevant points in the text.
- Safety / Function: Identifies notices important for personal safety or the function of the awning.
- Product information: Highlights important information for the user.
3. Validity
This operating guide applies to all awnings and canopies supplied by Aura Awnings, including: Aura Lite, Aura Plus, Arezzo, Calnova, Armony, Zenith, Epica, Italia Slim, and Fixed & Folding Canopies.
4. Safety
All folding arm awnings and canopies are designed and manufactured to comply with EN 13561:2004. Non-observance of this guide during operation can create danger to persons, or cause damage to the product or other property.
- Operate products only when in technically perfect condition, in accordance with intended use, and with awareness of safety.
- Any safety-relevant defects should be rectified immediately.
5. Proper Intended Use
Awnings are primarily for protection against solar UV rays. When deployed, they provide limited protection against light rain (see water load in Section 11). Any other usage is not considered intended use and may cause damage.
- No modifications, extensions, or conversions may be performed without approval of Aura Awnings.
- Any parts not in perfect condition must be replaced immediately.
- Only original spare parts prescribed by the manufacturer may be used; third-party parts invalidate the warranty.
- No additional loading (e.g., suspended objects, anchoring to front rail/arms) is permitted.
- Mounting and maintenance may only be performed by qualified and trained specialist personnel.
6. Product Information

7. Operation
7.1 General Safety Information
- Operation only by persons instructed by a trained specialist.
- Children must not operate the awning; keep remotes/switches out of reach.
- Do not touch the awning while retracting or deploying (pinch points).
- Do not walk on fabric or load arms/cloth with objects; do not rest ladders against the awning.
- When working near the projection area, switch off automatic control (sun & wind). For electric models, isolate at the power supply.
- Retract awnings in the evening and before leaving the property.
- Do not deploy in ice, snow, or strong wind. Limited use in light rain is possible with a minimum 15° pitch to prevent pooling.
- If fabric becomes wet, deploy in dry conditions to allow natural drying and prevent stains/mildew.
7.2 Manual Hand-Crank Operation
Deploying: Engage the hooked hand crank in the transmission eye and rotate to deploy (fabric unrolls over the top of the roller tube). Fully deployed = arm knuckles almost touching (not locked) so fabric remains tensioned. If tension is lost, retract slightly to restore.
Retracting: Turn in the opposite direction until fully closed (fabric rolling over the top). Do not force beyond end position to avoid damage or wrinkling.
7.3 Electric Drive Operation
Your installer will demonstrate safe operation at handover.
Deploying: Press open. The awning runs to its end position automatically. Press “My” to stop at any intermediate point. At full deployment a small “crack” remains at the arm knuckles to retain fabric/arm tension.
Retracting: Press close. The awning runs to fully closed automatically. Press “My” to stop at any intermediate point.
8. Cleaning & Care
Frame & Cassette: Use a soft brush, mild detergent, and warm water.
Fabric: Clean with a soft brush; warm water if required. Do not use detergents (may erode coatings) and take special care with any signwriting.
Dickson cleaning/guard solutions are available from Aura Awnings on request.
After cleaning, allow the fabric to dry naturally before retracting. Do not use high-pressure cleaners, scouring agents/sponges, or solvents (alcohol, thinners, petrol).
9. Maintenance
Safe use requires regular checks and servicing.
- Inspect fabric and frame for wear/damage; ensure fixings remain tight and secure.
- If damage is found, contact the specialist installer or suitable service organisation.
- Do not use awnings/canopies in need of repair.
10. Dismounting
Improper mounting activities can cause damage or injury. Only allow dismounting by a specialist.

12. Guarantee
We provide three guarantees covering the awning, fabric, and installation. Guarantees apply to correctly installed products in domestic or commercial settings. The obligation of Aura Awnings is limited to repair or replacement of defective materials/components (with like or similar parts). Guarantees are limited to the original purchaser.
Awning — 5 Year Guarantee
- Covers motor and metal parts (fabric and installation covered separately).
- Exclusions (non-exhaustive): improper/incidental use; inadequate maintenance; normal wear and tear; damage by third parties or abnormal conditions (fire, storm, wind, water); consumables (batteries, fuses, bulbs).
- Warranty and CE declaration are void if unauthorised changes are made.
- No claims for damage due to control failure when left on automatic (e.g., timers, sun/wind/vibration/rain sensors). Automatic controls increase ease of use/safety but unattended operation is at the user’s risk.
| Scope of cover | Year 1 | Year 2 | Year 3 | Year 4 | Year 5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Removal from install location | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ |
| Carriage to factory | ✔ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ |
| Labour (assembly & repair) | ✔ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ |
| Components | ✔ | ✔ | ✔ | ✔ | ✔ |
Guarantee does not cover removal/reinstallation or consequential loss.
Fabric — 10 Year Guarantee
10-year guarantee against rot and colour fading, with staged cover after 8 years. Standard fabrics are solution-dyed acrylic. Minor imperfections (embossing, veining, small folds along stitching, overlapping) are inherent to acrylic fabrics and do not affect performance.
Typical phenomena: “Veining” from handling/sewing; folds when rolling; “waves” from varying wrap thickness at hems/seams (e.g., herringbone pattern).
Solar protection: Dickson ORCHESTRA fabrics warrant rot-proof properties and colour fastness (min. 4/5 per NF EN ISO 105 B04). For 8 years, defective yardage may be replaced or reimbursed at invoiced value (excludes all other costs/compensation). In the 9th year a 30% discount, and in the 10th year a 15% discount on new fabric (based on price list at complaint date) is provided for justified claims.
Claims must be submitted within 10 days of noticing the defect, with purchase invoice, to the original retailer by registered mail. Fabric must be available for inspection. Replacement/reimbursement does not extend the original warranty. Covers fabrics regularly maintained under normal use/environment.
Installation — 12 Month Guarantee
Covers workmanship of installation by Aura Awnings or appointed subcontractors for 12 months from completion.
- Exclusions (non-exhaustive): misuse/negligence or failure to follow the O&M guide; alterations/repairs not carried out by Aura Awnings or approved partners; movement/subsidence/structural issues of the building; normal wear/weathering of fixings, seals, ancillary parts; damage due to abnormal conditions (storm, fire, flooding, impact).
- Void if changes are made to the installation without written approval.
- Applies only to workmanship; mechanism, fabric, electrical components, and accessories are covered by their respective guarantees.
