Question 1

How much does a residential awning cost?

Accepted Answer

A typical Aura folding-arm awning for a UK home lands between roughly £2,500 and £8,000 fitted, including VAT.

Price depends on:

- **Width and projection** — larger units use more fabric and heavier arms.
- **Manual or motorised** — motors add sensors, wiring and a remote.
- **Brackets & Fixings** — Different walls or heights require different brackets to secure the awning.
- **Extras** — LED lights, heaters, valances and covers.

Question 2

Which awning suits my garden or patio?

Accepted Answer

Most homes suit a **folding-arm cassette awning** because it retracts flush against the wall when not in use.

Quick guide:

- **Terrace or patio up to 6m wide** — Aura Plus or Aura Lite folding-arm awning.
- **Wider than 6m** — Epica (residential) or a twin unit.
- **Full outdoor room** — a louvred pergola with side screens.

Question 3

Can an awning be fitted to a bungalow or single-storey home?

Accepted Answer

Yes — single-storey homes usually need **custom brackets** to lift the awning above the doors and windows.

On a single storey installation we must use **spreader brackets** as these spread the load of awning down the wall, rather than all the force pulling on the top part of the wall.

We supply and fit these as standard when you tick single-storey on the estimate.

During the site survey we will assess any doors or obstacles to ensure that the brackets set the awning at the right height so it clears the top of any doors or windows below and gives full projection when open.

Question 4

Do I need a motorised awning or is manual fine?

Accepted Answer

For most homes we recommend motorised — it's more comfortable, protects the awning and unlocks smart features like wind sensors.

Manual awnings work well for smaller units up to about 4m wide and cost less up front. Motorised units come with a Somfy motor, a Situo remote and (as standard) an Eolis wind sensor that automatically retracts the awning when it gusts.

Question 5

Is my property suitable for an awning?

Accepted Answer

Almost every wall type is suitable — brick, block, render, insulated render, timber frame and steelwork can all take an awning with the right fixings.

Our surveyor will check:

- Wall build-up and load path.
- Available fixing height and door clearance.
- Any pipes, cables or downpipes in the way.

There is nearly always one way or another to install the right brackets or structure to mount an awning and create some shade over your desired area. Our team are experienced in recommending the right solution for your project. When you complete the estimate form, ensure you attache a photograph and one of the team will be able to give you some advice on your options.

If a wall isn't suitable, we can spec a **roof-mount bracket** or a **freestanding pergola** instead. [Book a free survey](/book-site-visit).
